Tumblr Image Downloader
Save photos and GIFs from public Tumblr posts at full resolution — paste the link, no login.
A Tumblr image downloader that saves the original full-resolution file
SnapSave is a free Tumblr image downloader that saves the photos, artwork and animated GIFs on a public Tumblr post at full resolution, as a clean JPG, PNG or GIF. Paste a public Tumblr post link into the box at the top of this page, press Download, and the original file lands on your device. No app, no account, and no screenshot to crop afterwards.
People open a SnapSave downloader for everyday reasons: pulling a piece of art into a reference folder, keeping a photograph before a blog goes quiet, or filing away a reaction GIF to use in a chat later. The catch with Tumblr is that the picture you see in the dashboard or on the blog is a scaled-down preview, sized to load quickly in your feed. A screenshot only copies that smaller preview, never the sharp original.
SnapSave reads the Tumblr post link you paste and fetches the original image that Tumblr stores on its own servers, the full-size version the creator first uploaded. It hands it back as a ready JPG or PNG photo, or keeps an animated post as a looping GIF, clean and unmarked. It works only with public Tumblr posts on public blogs. Use it to save your own work or other public images you have permission to keep, and please respect Tumblr’s Terms of Service and creators’ copyright. Looking for clips instead? Try the Tumblr Video Downloader.
How to download a Tumblr image in three steps
From a public post link to a saved, full-resolution file in well under a minute, with no software to install and no sign-up.
Copy the Tumblr post link
On the post you want, open the share menu and choose Copy link, or open the post in your browser and copy the URL from the address bar. A normal public blog post URL is all you need.
Paste it into SnapSave
Drop the link into the box at the top of this page and press Download. SnapSave opens the post and finds the original image stored behind the preview.
Save the image
Pick the file and save it. A photo comes back as a full-resolution JPG or PNG, and an animated post comes back as a GIF, straight to your phone or computer.
What you can save from a Tumblr post
One box reads the link and works out what is inside a public Tumblr post, a photo, a piece of artwork, an animated GIF, or a set of several images, then offers the right download for it.
Photos & artwork
Save photography, illustrations and design posts from a public blog as full-resolution JPG or PNG. SnapSave fetches the original the creator uploaded, not the small preview, so the file stays sharp.
Animated GIFs
Plenty of Tumblr posts are reaction GIFs and short animated loops. SnapSave saves an animated post as a GIF, so the movement is kept exactly as it plays on the blog.
Multi-image posts
Some Tumblr posts hold several photos in one post. SnapSave lets you save the images from a public multi-image post one by one, so you keep the whole set rather than just the first picture.
We don’t log your links or keep your images
Plenty of Tumblr downloaders quietly keep a record of every link that is pasted into them. SnapSave does not work that way. There is no account to sign into, no list of what you have saved, and no copy of your file left sitting on a server.
When you paste a public Tumblr post link, SnapSave reads the post, finds the original image on Tumblr’s own servers, and passes that file to your device. The link only lives long enough to prepare the download, then it is gone, no upload step, nothing parked on a disk, and no log with your name attached.
Supported Tumblr formats and resolutions
What the creator uploaded is what comes back down, no re-compression and no shrinking, just the original file Tumblr stored behind the preview.
| Source on Tumblr | What SnapSave gives you | Quality |
|---|---|---|
| Photo post (JPG) | JPG | Full resolution, original |
| Photo or artwork (PNG) | PNG | Full resolution, original |
| Animated post | GIF | Original loop |
| Multi-image post | JPG / PNG, saved one by one | Full resolution, original |
Get a clean Tumblr download every time
Most downloads work first try. A few small habits sort out the ones that don’t.
Copy the post link, not the blog name
Open the individual post with the image, then use Copy link. On the web, copy the URL from the address bar so it points at that one post rather than the whole blog feed.
A screenshot is only the preview
The image shown in the dashboard is a scaled-down copy. A screenshot saves that smaller version, while SnapSave fetches the original file behind it, which is the whole reason your download stays sharp.
Resolution depends on the upload
SnapSave always returns the largest version Tumblr holds, but it cannot go past what was posted. If the original photo is small, that size is the ceiling, no tool can add detail that was never there.
SnapSave only works with public posts
The downloader saves images from posts that are public on Tumblr. If a blog is private or password-protected and needs a login to view, SnapSave cannot open it, by design. Stick to public posts on public blogs.
Save a multi-image post slide by slide
When a post holds several photos, save them one by one so nothing is missed. Paste the post link, then save each image in turn to keep the complete set.
If a download stalls, refresh and retry
A dropped connection happens. Reload the page, paste the link again, and most stalled downloads finish on the second go. Nothing half-finished is kept, so a retry is always safe.
What makes SnapSave a better Tumblr image downloader
One tool for the photos, artwork and animated GIFs on public Tumblr blogs, at full resolution, clean and unmarked, with no record of what you save.
Original, full resolution
SnapSave fetches the original photo Tumblr stored, not the scaled-down preview, so you keep every pixel the creator uploaded as a clean JPG or PNG.
No watermark, no overlay
The file you save is the picture as it was posted, with nothing added, no resize and no re-compression. No SnapSave stamp ends up on your image.
Photos, artwork and GIFs
Save a photo or piece of artwork as JPG or PNG, keep an animated post as a looping GIF, or pull every image from a multi-image post. The same box reads the link and offers what fits.
Free, unlimited, no sign-up
No daily limit, no email, no locked features and no account. Save one image or fifty, the Tumblr downloader stays free.
Works on every device
iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook, any modern browser, with no app and no extension to maintain.
Looking for clips?
Tumblr posts can hold video too. When you need a clip instead of a still, the Tumblr Video Downloader saves it as MP4 in HD.
How to download Tumblr images on any device
The routine is the same everywhere, copy, paste, download. Only the place the file lands changes.
iPhone & iPad iOS
Open the post, use Copy link, open SnapSave in Safari, paste, and download. A photo saves to Files → Downloads. To move it into Photos, open the file, tap share, and choose Save Image.
Android Chrome
Use Copy link on the post, open SnapSave in Chrome, paste, and tap download. The file shows up in your Downloads notification and folder, and most gallery apps pick it up on their own.
Windows PC
Open the post in your browser, copy the URL from the address bar, paste it into SnapSave, and click download. The file lands in your default Downloads folder, usually C:UsersYourNameDownloads.
Mac macOS
Same as Windows, copy the post URL, paste, download. The image saves to ~/Downloads at full resolution, and SnapSave works in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Brave and Arc.
Chromebook & Linux
Identical steps: open the post, copy, paste, download. Files save to your Downloads folder and show up in the Files app on Chromebook or your file manager on Linux.

What SnapSave won’t do
A downloader should be a handy tool, not a way around someone’s rights. A few things stay off the table on purpose.
Open private or password-protected blogs
SnapSave only saves images from posts that are public on Tumblr. If a blog is private or password-protected and needs a login to view, it stays off-limits, and the tool never logs in to an account.
Bulk-rip a whole blog
Each download is one paste of one public post. SnapSave is not a blog scraper and won’t be bent into one.
Hold on to your downloads
The finished file travels from Tumblr to your device. Nothing stays with us, so there is nothing to “delete later”, it was never kept.
Ask for your Tumblr password
SnapSave never needs your login or your account, and it never signs in. If a Tumblr downloader wants you to log in, close the tab.
Add tracking or a watermark
The JPG, PNG or GIF you save is the original image as Tumblr stored it, with nothing added, nothing altered, and certainly no SnapSave stamp.
Help you reuse content you don’t own
Saving someone else’s photo or artwork to republish or sell, without permission, isn’t what this is for. Keep it to your own posts, public-domain content, or images you are allowed to save, and respect Tumblr’s Terms of Service and copyright.
Tumblr Image Downloader, frequently asked questions
Is SnapSave free to use?
Yes. SnapSave is a free Tumblr Image Downloader with unlimited downloads, no signup, no email, no premium tier and no daily cap. A few light ads keep the service going.
Do I need an app or an account?
Neither. SnapSave runs in your web browser, so there’s no app, no extension and no software to install, and it never asks for a Tumblr login or account.
What resolution are the saved images?
Full resolution. SnapSave fetches the original image the creator uploaded, behind the smaller preview Tumblr shows in your feed, and saves it as a clean JPG or PNG at its original size. It cannot go larger than what was posted.
Can I save animated GIFs?
Yes. Many Tumblr posts are animated loops, and SnapSave saves an animated post as a GIF so the movement is kept exactly as it plays on the blog.
Can I save a multi-image post, and can I save videos too?
Yes to both. When a post holds several photos, save the images one by one to keep the whole set. Tumblr posts can hold video as well, and for clips there is a separate Tumblr Video Downloader that saves them as MP4 in HD.
Does it work with private blogs?
No. SnapSave only saves images from public Tumblr posts on public blogs that have a shareable link. Private blogs, password-protected blogs, and anything that needs you to log into an account are not supported, by design, and the tool never logs in.
Is it legal, and what is allowed?
It depends on the post. Saving images you created, content in the public domain, or images you have the owner’s permission to use is generally fine. Re-publishing or selling someone else’s photo or artwork without permission is not, and SnapSave isn’t meant for that. You are responsible for respecting copyright, the creator’s rights, and Tumblr’s Terms of Service.
How do I save a Tumblr image on iPhone or Android?
Use Copy link on the post, open SnapSave in Safari or Chrome, paste, and download. On iPhone the file goes to Files → Downloads, and you can tap share then Save Image to add it to Photos. On Android it lands in your Downloads folder or Gallery.
